Woman Knifed in Birmingham City Bus Shelter Assault Succumbs to Injuries
The female victim who was stabbed in the neck during a random assault at a bus stop within Birmingham has passed away, police have confirmed.
The deceased woman, who was 34, was targeted in Smallbrook Queensway, just outside the Bullring shopping centre, just prior to 9 PM GMT on Friday, West Midlands Police said.
The suspect, 21, appeared before Birmingham court Monday morning, charged over the attack.
He was previously accused of attempted murder however after the victim's passing charges were upgraded to murder.
Law Enforcement Actions
Authorities stated officers would be in the downtown area through Monday providing public assurance, while detectives assisted the victim's relatives.
Investigators are requesting any eyewitnesses who may have seen Mr Rafael, who is described as British citizen of Black ethnicity, and is believed to have been wearing an all-grey tracksuit, black hat, trainers with a backpack.
Incident Location
The knife attack occurred outside Bullring retail complex, across from the main entrance to Birmingham New Street station.
Police said they were treating it as a random violent act with investigators stating efforts continue to determine the motive behind.
Witness Accounts
Shalini Doal, who works nearby, described paramedic and police activity when she finished her work period around 10 PM Friday night.
She characterized the location as extremely disorderly, adding that some of her colleagues heard a commotion around 9 PM.
"Many co-workers take public transport, ride the tramline... our safety is at risk essentially, here in the city centre."
Another individual, 25, from Stoke-on-Trent, mentioned visiting the city fairly regularly to see his girlfriend resident there, and was concerned regarding the incident.
"It makes me worried about my partner," he stated.
"She lacks transportation and works at major concert locations... considering a totally random act [happened], understandably, it's horrible."
